Hi IkiAustralia, I again tried to post an ad on your website today only to be told I couldn\\'t post. I tried posting the ad in the \\"events\\" section, the \\"community - musiciansartists\\" and the \\"community - other\\" sections. This is the ads content: \\"Sophie Gralton A Definite Likeness Charles Hewitt Gallery, Sydney 17 September – 6 October 2009 Artist Sophie Gralton’s latest exhibition promises a trip down memory lane to an old-fashioned childhood of lost innocence and simple pleasures. A Definite Likeness comprises 30 mixed media works. It takes viewers on an evocative, haunting journey into a child’s world and the fresh-faced innocence of a bygone era. Gralton’s five year old daughter Isadora often features as muse and model in her paintings. However the works are not intended as conventional portraits. They’re less biographical and more an exploration of the universal emotions attached to childhood, a fleeting impression of youth that is common to most of us. Gralton’s treatment of her subject is not overly sentimental. Her works represent an idea, a mood, manifested through the children’s posture and the objects included in the works, rather than through the child’s gaze. The artist’s works have a sense of re-invention. She ‘rescues’ broken objects, finds things that have been deemed obsolete and gives them a new life. Parts of children’s clothing, manila tags, children’s story books, linoleum, lace and postage stamps are all applied directly to the canvas. Clothes from her own childhood feature heavily, including the swimming costume she wore when she was young and the shoes her husband wore as a child. Block numbers and letters are also scattered throughout her works reminiscent of a 19th century Victorian nursery.
